The Parish Giving Tree
Each year, St. Michael’s partners with the Moreau Community Center to assist them in making sure needy children in our community receive gifts on Christmas Day. With so many families struggling more than ever this is a great way to demonstrate selfless love for the needy!
We are privileged to take part in this annual effort. Simply take a gift tag off the Giving Tree in the gathering space, purchase the item indicated, wrap it and return it with the tag affixed to the gift by Sunday, December 16 so that it can be distributed by the Moreau Community Center. You will surely receive far more than you give!

Advent Reconciliation Services
Advent is a time of renewal and of sharing God’s gifts. The main purpose of the birth of Jesus was to redeem us all from our sins. To more fully appreciate this, in preparation for Christmas, Catholics are encouraged to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation (confession). In our area, two reconciliation services (in addition to the regular offering) have been planned to enable people an opportunity to celebrate Reconciliation (confession).
- Daytime Service: Tuesday, December 11 at 1:00 pm
St. Michael’s Church, South Glens Falls
- Evening Service: Tuesday, December 11 at 7:00 pm
St. Mary’s Church, Glens Falls
(The Sacrament of Reconciliation is offered at St. Michael’s regularly on Saturdays from 3:00 ~ 3:45 pm)
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is a great gift to give oneself at this joyful time and to share in regularly. The service consists of a brief Liturgy of the Word, hymns and prayer, followed by individual confession. Several priests will be present to join in this celebration of God’s mercy.
A ‘Blue Christmas’ Prayer Service
Friday, December 21 – 6:30 pm
The Winter Solstice – the shortest day of the year, when darkness embraces the world for the longest period of time of the year; people may feel the ‘darkness’ in their hearts with the pangs of loss or grief – perhaps a loved one; perhaps other personal feelings of loss, too, that, well, just make this Holiday season leaving you feeling “blue.”
This time of the year is a joyful one for most people, but there also are many for whom it is a very painful and difficult period because they are dealing with loss: a job, a death or perhaps estrangement within the family, depression, and other tough life challenges that has a hold on our hearts.
But each year some people – the grieving, the lonely or sad – dread the Holiday season. They simply have no heart for the cheer and the bustle, the anticipation and the excitement. This prayer service is an opportunity to come together in support and comfort and feel God’s glorious love and mercy, despite the sense of the ‘blues’ that might otherwise be present and attempt to reclaim at least some of the joy of this very special time of year. All are welcome!
